Rebuilding One Business At A Time

THIS WEB PAGE WILL BE REPLACED BY THE MBAS4KATRINA.ORG SITE IN DECEMBER. In the meantime, we present a draft of our first program.

    Our Roadmap Program

From our experiences offering 3000+ hours of volunteer consulting assistance, as MBAs4NYC, to 90 New York City small businesses affected by 9/11, we have developed a new virtual consulting program designed to provide business assistance to the small business owner in New Orleans and the surrounding communities, as well as in Mississippi, Alabama and Texas.

    Our Program

MBAs4Katrina enters into a formal partnership with each small business where the Small Business Owner (SBO) is assigned a volunteer team of two or three experienced MBA professionals (where one volunteer might be a MBA student) located virtually in the United States and world. This team has received training to provide a three-step program. Each team member will spend up to 15 hours to work, as a team, with the small business owner for a 6 month period of time.

    Why this Roadmap is Important

Studies have shown that businesses that write down their business plans, goals and commitments are more likely to meet them. Through the guidance (and care) of his or her advisory team, the SBO may not feel alone in his or struggle to relaunch, and also has a non-family or friend outlet to voice concerns, anxieties, and feelings. Our team can help the SBO move forward smartly and with more confidence.

    What is a Business Roadmap?

Our Business Roadmap is a 3-step program where the main deliverable is a 2-5 page document written by the small business owner that outlines his or her commitment, including an overview of strategy and tactics, to rebuilding his or her business. This document is not a business plan, per say, but a game plan, a prioritization of what this owner needs to do, and, most important, offers a clear vision for setting goals and accomplishments over time.

    The Three-Step Program:

    1) A series of discussions with SBO. We will first ask the SBO to take an entrepreneurial assessment test to learn more about his or her abilities to meet the day-to-day demands to relaunch and rebuild: Then we will go through a series of questions and discussions to help the SBO develop key priorities, including strategies and an implementation plan.

    2) SBO writes and rewrites the 2-5 page priority Business Roadmap based on ongoing team/SBO interactions.

    3) After the Business Roadmap is written, the team meets periodically by phone for a coaching conversation with the SBO, and is available for individual calls, to review priorities and day-to-day activities to keep SBO focused toward his or her priorities and goals.
